Versus

Susquenita High School

2 - To Go!

The Susquenita Black Hawks were flying high after their second consecutive win in the Colonial and a very nice article in the Patriot News about their team and coach.  Then Chad Halterman took the opening kickoff 79 yards to the home end zone.  18 points later, the Bears led 24-0 and were flying high themselves en-route to their 6th straight victory knocking off the Hawks 59-22.

Northern rolled up 404 total yards of offense and limited Susquenita to just to half of that at 194.  Particularly impressive was the passing efficiency of Colby Betz who was 13 of 17 for 184 yards and a score.  Colby hit five different receivers; none larger than the 30-yard, 3rd down pass to Steve Morret in the 3rd quarter which took any momentum away from the Hawks who had cut the deficit to just 10.  The Bears went on to score on the drive when Mike Romagnoli banged in from 3 yards out.  At that point all the wind was essentially gone from the Hawk sails as the Bears cruised with four more scores ending the night with a terrific 32 yard interception for a score by Senior Chris Cook.

Short of the scores the Hawks had late in the 1st half and early in the 3rd quarter, they just could not get anything going against the Polar Bear D.  Craig Moose, as usual, was dominant as the defensive general calling signals and making play after play.  Matt Powley and Scott Albright were flying to the ball and Brandon Adams was immovable.  In the secondary, Ryan Stephenson seemed to be everywhere picking up two interceptions of his own and Jimmy Miller continues to be a force running down ball carriers and harassing QB's.

The offensive stats just keep rolling up for "The Hammer" who rushed 9 times for 86 yards and a touchdown.  Dane Eichelberger continues to impress on both sides of the ball.  The Junior rushed for two touchdowns on 4 carries.  Michael Davies added another touchdown to his resume and what can you say about Chad Halterman?  Chad scored three times…returning, rushing, and receiving.

There are two games to go in the regular season, each one huge in terms of Division Titles and playoff berths.  Let's keep the train rolling this Friday when Big Spring comes in.  The Seniors on the team will remember how the Bulldogs celebrated their last Division Title at Bostic field in 2003 taking it away from the Bears in a shootout.  Because West Perry fell to Greencastle tonight, 17-7, the Bears can clinch the Colonial with a win against the Bulldogs this Friday night.

How great would that be?
