Week 7

The Train Rolls On

Northern Handles Big Spring for their 25th Consecutive

Regular Season Win

October 12, 2007

Northern 55 – Big Spring 3

It began as a contrast in styles but very early on in this game, it seemed the Bulldogs came to Bostic to play.  Offensively, Big Spring’s attack resembled more of a rugby scrum than any kind of deep set.  And while it did take Northern’s D a series to overcome the no-split offensive line fullback dive, overcome it did forcing 3 turnovers and holding the Bulldogs to 86 yards rushing on 50 carries, an average of 1.8 yards per try.   Big Spring’s offense couldn’t muster anything against the Mid-State’s 4th ranked rushing defense.  Their passing game didn’t fare much better as they completed only 4 passes all night, threw an interception to Robbie Bleiler which led to a touchdown, fumbled twice, and was sacked three times once each by Travis Wenger, Tim McAleer, and Jake Scott.

For Northern offensively, Michael Davies brutalized the Bulldogs rushing for 5 touchdowns and 148 yards on 12 carries.  He now has 1138 yards and 21 touchdowns on the season.  Bubba Smith and Dustin Miller each added a touchdown and Jordan Rutherford continued his efficient leadership at quarterback completing 6 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown to Ryan Aumiller.

The Polar Bears are simply doing what they have to do in this amazing season.  They are a united and dedicated team who are well coached.  Whatever they accomplish and whatever accolades have come to this point are shared by each member of the purple and white.  They do not look ahead.  The only thing on their radar is their next opponent and next week, it’s Susquenita.

Congratulations Bears on 25 in a row.
