Week 2

Home Opener against Central York

September 7, 2007

Northern 29 – Central York 3

WOW!

This is how you open at home.  AAAA power Central York came in to Bostic with all 100 of their players fresh off a big win against West York………….. and hit a wall.  Specifically two walls; the offensive and defensive lines.  Central was unable to get anything going offensively.  Their team speed was negated by an aggressive Polar Bear linebacking and secondary corp.  Panthers Quarterback Brandon Workinger was under pressure all night throwing three interceptions, two to Michael Davies.  Offensively, Northern acted a single unit with Mokes pounding out yard after yard behind its impressive offensive line.  Jordan Rutherford was unfazed throwing for a hundred yards and two touchdowns, the first a 31 yard strike to Donnie Bell racing downfield and the second, a beautiful fade pass to Ryan Aumiller who miraculously kept his feet in-bounds.  Ultimately, Northern shut down the YAIAA Division 1 Panthers in every phase of the game.

The scoring started off in the 2nd quarter with Mokes going in from 3 yards out.   After shutting out the Panther offense for the entire first half, the Polar Bears took advantage of bad Central punt and a Mokes interception and scored twice in the last 1:01 of the half.  The third quarter saw the teams trade field goals with Northern’s, a 45 yarder coming off the leg of Matt Sheibley.  The Polar Bears slammed the door on scoring and the visiting Panthers in the 4th quarter when Mokes went in again from 23 yards out leaving Panther defenders lying on the ground.

There were many outstanding performances tonight not the least of which was Michael Davies 111 yards rushing, two interceptions, and two touchdowns.  The O and D lines were again dominant as was the defensive secondary.  Northern is now 2-0 and heading to Mechanicsburg to play the Wildcats, their non-conference rival.
