Versus

Susquenita High School

On FOOTBALL FRIDAY, Bears Completely Dominate Blackhawks 50-0

In a wild week of AAA football, the Bears continued their torrid pace blowing out Susquenita for their third straight mercy-ruled, victory.  Northern's offense and defense were relentless holding the Blackhawks to negative rushing yards and a mere 35 yards passing.  The scorefest began when Mike "The Hammer" Romagnoli went 53 yards straight up the middle.  Jimmy Miller scored the first of his two touchdowns for the Bears 2nd score going in from 9 yards out.  Eric Baker called his own number and scored from the 10 yard line and the Bears led 21-0 before Central Pennsylvania's top Quarterback, Colby Betz, even entered the game.  Colby wasted no time getting in on the scoring with his own run of 7 yards and a touchdown.  At halftime, the Bears led 28-0.  Susquenita could not get anything going against the Bears.  Senior Shawn McGeehan was a big part of their problem having one of his best nights for Northern registering 3 sacks of Blackhawk quarterbacks.

The 2nd half was more of the same for both teams.  The Hammer went in again to start the 2nd half scoring; then, his brother Drew scored on a 22 yard pass from Colby.  Drew added a couple more of those amazing 5+ broken tackle runs and the Polar Bears could not/would not be stopped.  In the 4th quarter, Jimmy Miller got his 2nd touchdown diving into the end zone on a beautiful run from 3 yards out.  The defense scored when they forced Blackhawk QB, Potter to intentionally ground the ball from his own end zone.  That put the scoring at 50-0, and that's where it ended.  Everyone contributed to the effort in every phase of the game.

There was a scary moment for the Bears toward the end of the first half when 2-way starting sophomore lineman, Lorne Siefert, went down with a leg injury.  It looked pretty bad for the young man who has been having an amazing season.  The sideline was emotionally swept up in Lorne's injury resulting in each player coming over to him prior to entering the locker room at half time.  I am very happy to report that Lorne's injury is not as serious as initially feared.  Doctors have diagnosed him with a rear muscle strain in the knee area and he will be fine.

Next week the Bears will visit Big Spring.  The Bulldogs won the Mid-Penn Colonial on Bostic Field last season beating the Bears in a shootout.  This Big Spring team is much better than their 4-4 record would indicate and the Bears will have their hands full in Newville.  Let's continue the trend and turn out the town for this one!  It will be a huge game.
