Week 1

Versus
Bermudian Springs
This year it was our turn………..
Week 1 gets off to a
bang in the remnants of Tropical Storm, Ernesto, with the Polar Bears jumping
all over the Bermudian Springs Eagles 32-6.
The Northern defense was stifling shutting down nearly all aspects of
the Eagles offense. What a way to start
the season!
The Eagles did not
manage to get a first down without a penalty until late in the 3rd
quarter. Until the last three minutes of
the game, Northern held Bermudian’s running backs to 19 yards on 20
carries. Stifling. Keith Reed and Tim McAleer were a wall in the
middle of the field with Scottie Albright and Jake Scott shutting down anything
wide. The play of the front four allowed
Michael Davies and Josh Kefauver to be a wrecking crew at linebacker while the
secondary was a blanket. Davies finished
with a team high 6 tackles.
Offensively, Chad
Halterman had a solid debut connecting on 7 for 11 passing for 168 yards and a
touchdown. He also rushed for 2
scores. Gerald Anderson was fun to watch
out of the backfield. “G” led the Polar
Bears running back committee with 70 yards on 15 carries and two
touchdowns. Dane Eichelberger and
Michael Davies contributed with some tough inside running as did Halterman
whose running style is much different than Polar Bear QB’s of the recent past.
The catch of the
night belonged to Ryan Stephenson who laid out for a beautiful mid-field first
down catch. Later in the game, Donnie
Bell made a terrific grab adjusting perfectly on a 35 yard Halterman pass.
Overall
the Bears have a lot to build on heading into a huge game this week with Quad A
Central York. The
Clashing
with backyard rival Bermudian is always a great way to start the season and 1-0
puts the Bears on track for big things this year.
