Versus
This is what Friday Night Lights are all About………..
Coming
off of their payback win against Bermudian, the Bears entered
The
Polar Bears jumped out to an early 7-0 lead scoring on their first offensive
possession when Gerald Anderson flew 63 yards for the score. Chad Halterman scored next on a 1 yard run
and the Bears led 14-0 in the first quarter.
A blocked punt, however, put the Panthers right back into the game when after
returning the block to the Northern 15, Central WR Ryan Brunner caught a pass
in the end-zone that was deflected by another panther receiver. Coach Wise’s defense stiffened again and
forced Central to punt to Halterman who returned the ball to the Panther
18.
This
game was anything but over as the teams traded possessions in the 3rd
quarter. Early in the 4th
though, Central found the end-zone and converted a 2 pt. conversion on an
unbalanced line trick play. Northern
responded when Halterman grinded out a couple of big runs ultimately leading to
G’s second touchdown of the night.
Central still did not quit. Last
years’ Quad A State Playoff team showed up again and scored with under 4
minutes to play cutting into Northern’s lead, 28-22. An unsuccessful onside kick recovered by
Dustin Miller gave the Bears the ball at mid-field with 3:40 to play. Coach Mauck’s play calling and Halterman’s
running ground the clock down to 2 seconds when Central took back the
ball. The Polar Bears smothered Panther
QB Nate Petry who threw incomplete ending the game and sending the Polar Bears
home with 2 wins and no losses.
In
all, Halterman accounted for 43 yards passing 1 TD, 88 yards rushing 1 TD. Gerald Anderson had 105 yards on 11 carries
and 2 TD’s. Ryan Stephenson had 2
receptions for 43 yards and 1 TD.
Defensively, the Bears flew all over the field. Senior Josh Kefauver was in on multiple stops
and had a sack. Jake Scott and Scottie
Albright shut down the ends while Scott recovered a Panther fumble. Tim McAleer had 2 sacks and several tackles
and assists. Newcomer Antonio Myers
looked good in his first start while the secondary continues to play
strong.
Next
week Northern returns home to play Mechanicsburg in their last non-conference
game. As usual, the stadium will be
packed so come out early and where your purple and white.
