Versus

Susquenita

At 8-0 Bears Roll toward East Penn

Northern 41      Susquenita 6

For the second week in a row, Northern mercy-ruled their opponent before the 1st half was over.   The difference between this week and last was that Northern’s JV squad actually started the 2nd half this week.  Visiting Susquenita put up little resistance as the Bears rolled in all aspects of the game.  Offensively, the scoring mounted up in the 1st half and this week the defense added to the scoreboard on Ryan O’Toole’s fumble recovery for a touchdown.  When the dust settled, Northern led 41-0 at the half.  Game Over!

This week, again, Dane Eichelberger started the scoring on an 8 yard reception from Chad Halterman.  The next Bear score was a thing of beauty as Chad dropped back to throw, couldn’t find anybody, was rushed, broke and escaped several tackles, and then found Donnie Bell alone for a 25 yard score.  The play resembled that of another #5 who wears a green jersey.  Then the running game took over as Michael Davies blasted in from 2 yards out.  The defense scored next on O’Toole’s recovery and then Gerald Anderson capped off the night with two 20-yard touchdown runs.

In the 3rd quarter with the clock running out the mercy rule, the Blackhawks did manage a score on the Bears 2nd team but that was all.  The Northern JV defense settled in and shut out Susquenita the rest of the way on some fine play by Cory Strausbaugh and Cody Whary.  After the game, Northern celebrated the victory at Al’s Pizza on Rt., 15 with the crew from WHTM TV 27’s Football Friday on live television.

Northern is now one of only three undefeated Central PA AAA teams.  A playoff berth already clinched, the Bears will now look to lock down their seeding in the upcoming District 3 tournament.  Standing in their way are two tough outs in Colonial Division rivals East Penn and Shippensburg.  The final two weeks of the season will be nothing short of exciting.  Next week, Northern heads to the Jungle at East Penn to play the Panthers who lost a heartbreaker to West Perry tonight.  Kickoff is at 7:30pm.

There is much yet to be decided!
